Obituary from St. Louis Post-Dispatch -- 01/17/2002

Rockwood 6th-grade teacher Terri L. Waller McArthur, a sixth-grade teacher in Rockwood schools, was so passionate about education that she used every moment she could to teach her students, her colleagues say. "She'd be out there tutoring kids in the hallway as she'd be on duty in the hall. No other teacher did that she never quit," said Cindy Wise, a fellow sixth-grade teacher at Rockwood Valley Middle School. "She had high expectations for the children in her classroom."

Mrs. McArthur died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) apparently of a heart attack at her home in Town and Country. She was 53.

A native of Washington, Mrs. McArthur grew up in Pasadena, Calif. She attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., where she met her future husband, John S. McArthur, who now owns Johnny Mac's Sporting Goods stores in the St Louis area. They married in 1969

Oh, Terri, I never wanted to hear this terrible news.  I wish I could go back a day or two and always feel like you were out there somewhere and I would see you again.  I know we would have felt like we had just seen each other and start laughing and reminiscing and making new memories.  You were an angel on earth, as nice a human as God ever made.  I know I will see you in heaven and we will laugh, reminisce and make new memories.  I loved you, my friend, and always will.

I agree with Mike...shocked. I remember the summer before our senior year at PHS when Mike and I spent most of the summer hanging out at Terri's house playing pool and hanging out. She was special...much too young :(

Terri and I dated in the second half of senior year; she was my prom date.  Terri was beautiful, elegant and sweet.  Her father, an imposing man, taught a class or two at PHS, amd I was a student of his. I recall showing up at the front door of her home to pick Terri up for a date, greeted by him.  Put the fear of God in me.

Terri was a very special person.  Elegant and very visceral.
