Our birthdays were four days apart. We went from kindergarten to graduation. Same Little League team. Some hijinks for which we were lucky no one pressed charges. He was a vibrant, friendly, inclusive guy. His parents were wonderful people. Condolences to his brothers Jeff and Tom if they're still with us.  It's hard to wrap my mind around this sad, early passing.

Bill and I weren’t close friends in HS but we became so after we both went to UCSB and shared an apartment together.  We also shared  a number of memorable musical experiences together as he was a very talented pianist.  He had such a great, exuberant personality. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear of Bill's passing; been in my thoughts a lot for several days now....Bill and I grew up across the street from each other and spent lots of time together as kids.  His passing makes me think of the movie Stand By Me that concludes with (paraphrased) "do we ever have friends like we had when we were kids?"...Bill was funny, friendly, popular, a talented musician,and more than a bit wild (who else would skateboard full speed from the top of Medford Road?).  He was kind and friendly to all and a permanent testimonial to his wonderful parents, Mac and Marion.

Thanks for your Stand By Me comment, Alan.  It got to the heart of the matter.

For you Brother Bill;

Bill and I met at some Governor's conference in the 9th grade - he was the Marshall guy, I was the Wilson guy. We met again in 10th grade at PHS and became close friends.  We did a lot of stuff in those intervening years that I sure will not talk about here - it was fun. We stayed in touch until about 2 weeks ago when I was told Bill no longer accepts calls.  I miss our morning calls so, this morning, I called his cell phone and left a message reminding him that he was going to let me know how it is in heaven, who have you seen so far...you know the usual.  He hasn't gotten in touch with me yet but I am a patient guy.

Love you Bill,

Tom Lanphier

Hanson and I met at PHS thanks to Lanphier. But it is was our living a mile from each other in the OC that we became good friends. I would drive to his house in Costa Mesa after work where he had is make shift studio and his upright piano. He had a old drum set that I used and we would jam for hours. Still have a couple of those cassette tapes. He or Lanphier were the ones to start calling me Willard. Hanson would share Bible scripture with me which was a blessing . He will be missed.
