I first met "Roxie" Schwinn on our first day of Kindergarten at Eugene Field Elementary School. Only then did we realize that our mothers had gone to school together in Pasadena in the 1930's!  What a surprise!  We became good friends and spent many happy hours playing together, attending birthday parties, and swimming in the summer.   Roxie lived only a few blocks from my house, and both of us were only children with no brothers and sisters, so we had a lot in common.  Roxie was such a kind, caring and thoughtful person.  She was always beautifully dressed and wore a welcoming smile wherever she went.  Many people did not know that she was also a fantastic figure skater and practiced at the same rink as Peggy Flemming.  She entered and won many city and state figure skating competitions.

The last time I saw Roxie was in the old Broadway Department Store on Colorado Blvd.  She was working at the cosmetic counter and had recently married.  I was so happy to see her again, but sadly only a few years later, she died very suddenly.  Her life was cut off all too short.

I will always remember you, Roxie, as one of my first school friends, and I am glad we spent all those childhood days together.  Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Don't remember Roxxane that well, but I do remember her Eugene Field elementary school on Sierra Madre Blvd., which was across street from my parent's house.

I also remeber the Pasadena Winter Garden, where Peggy Fleming practiced, and Roxanne apparently did also.
