John Hastings was a long-time, great friend of mine since I was 12 years old when my family moved to Pasadena in 1960. He became one of my first friends at Willard Elementary where I attended sixth-grade. His family became my family in many ways. I spent a lot of time at his house and he at mine throughout the years. I went on fishing trips with his family many times. We continued to be friends after he moved to Victoria, Canada where I visited him. He was an avid sports competitor including setting the PHS pole-vaulting record of 14 feet, 3 inches back in 1967 which stood for years. He ran cross-country and played baseball. He was a loving father and brother to his siblings. I miss John very much. He was a great friend!
